How to Make Money From Blogs

Do you want to make money blogging? Welcome to a rapidly growing club!
More and more bloggers are exploring the profitable world of blogging. A large number of blogger across the globe supplement their income by monetizing their blogs. For many, blogging is their full-time job. Whether you are looking to pay for your education, hobby or make a living, there are plenty of ways to make it happen.
Once your blog starts getting a decent flow of visitors from search engines and referrals from other websites, it’s time to turn it into a steady stream of money. In this article, I will share the various ways to generate an income from your blog. Not all the methods will work for every blog. You will have to choose the right ones according to your blog’s niche, style and visitor profile.

1. AdSense

Google AdSense is the most popular advertising network on the Internet. It is the main source of revenue for a huge number of blogs and websites. Google would suggest you to use the large ad sizes for better performance. I have set them to show image and text based ads. The 300×250 pixel ads with a blended design perform the best in most cases. The link units haven’t given me any money, but they seem to work for a lot of blogs when placed close to the navigation or link bar of the website. AdSense also allows you to place ads in RSS feeds, but I haven’t had any luck so far. So I use a teaser summary for feeds to bring them to my website.

2. Affiliate Marketing

There are a variety of affiliate programmes that can supplement your income from blogs. You should only recommend quality products that your visitors will be interested in. Where to find affiliate programmes? You can sign up for Amazon’s affiliate programme and start selling books, gadgets, music and other products. Explore Commission Junction for some interesting affiliate programmes. You can also look for affiliate programmes offered by various credible websites in your niche.

3. E-book/Course Sales

Several bloggers find selling e-books as a very lucrative option. All that you have to do is find an interesting topic that your visitors are curious about and will be happy to pay a few dollars for the book or course material. Research the topic and put some effort into writing a 100-page book or a 7-days course. If your book or course material is of high quality, you will be surprised to see how many people buy your product every week.

4. Private Ad Sales/Sponsorships

Private ad sales directly to advertisers is a bit hard, but rewarding. You can offer to write sponsored posts or product reviews. You can easily charge around $50 for a review post if your blog gets in excess of 10,000 page views per month.

5. Chitika

Chitka traditionally works best on product-related blogs. However, their premium ad units perform  well on a wide range of blogs. You get paid via PayPal after your account earns $10. Low minimum pay-out makes it fantastic for young blogs.

6. Premium Content Area

Many popular blogs choose to mark some of their content as premium and charge a subscription fee for access to these articles and resources. If your blog has a good number of regular visitors, this might be a good strategy.
